Spurgeon Child Care Kenya is a Kenyan Christian non-profit organisation that exists to offer holistic support for orphaned and vulnerable children, young people and their families and create opportunities to find hope, making them more productive and resourceful to society, both now and in the future.
We at SCCK see the child as being at the centre of our work, as we believe that children can live at their best when integrated into the community through their family units. Our work therefore is designed to revolve around the child, whilst simultaneously meeting the needs of the family and wider community.
SCCK employs a social worker to oversee the provision of care to the children and their families, and this can take a number of forms. Provision of food and clothing parcels; enabling access to health care; spiritual support; meeting physical needs on an individual basis to ensure safety, security and physical and mental well-being for those concerned; and fostering improved parental care are some of these forms.
The combined impact of these various inputs is to give the children and their families hope for the future which inspires them to aspire to achieve, and then feel equipped to give back to the community and in turn to support others.
SCCK is also involved in advocacy and awareness creation on children issues as well as taking a role in policy formulation and research on social and child protection matters.
The core value of SCCK is rooted in James 1:27 – ‘Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world’.
